What is Lendwirbel?

Every year in May, streets and squares transform into a place where almost anything that benefits urban coexistence is possible. Lendwirbel is critically (socio-)political, providing a stage not for party politics or self-congratulation but for societal engagement. From the upper Griesgasse up to the Lendplatz and sometimes even beyond, public spaces are reclaimed by all those who have proactively contributed within the framework of year-round network meetings. It’s a celebration of community, creativity, and active participation, where the city becomes a canvas for collective expression and engagement.

When?

Lendwirbel 2024 is scheduled to take place from Thursday, May 2nd, to Sunday, May 5th. Over these four exciting days, Lendviertel will be the epicenter of cultural, artistic, and social activities, offering a unique experience for all participants. Get ready to immerse yourself in a world of diversity, creativity, and interaction as we come together to celebrate another edition of this special event.

A New Format: Thursday to Sunday

First and foremost, this year, Lendwirbel will not last for a whole week as usual, but we have decided to bundle the festival from Thursday to Sunday. This gives our core team more room for planning and allows for more intensive support of the various projects.

Themed Zones: Navigating Diversity

We have also worked on the structure of the festival and are proud to present our themed zones. From discourse to art, movement, and music, we offer you orientation and inspiration for an unforgettable weekend.

Music at the Heart of the Festival

Particularly exciting is our decision to once again focus on acoustic street music. A central music spot will be at a different location every day, showcasing local artists and street musicians. Here are the provisional dates and locations:

• Thursday, May 2, 2024 – Griesgasse | 14:00 – 22:00
• Friday, May 3, 2024 – Mariahilferplatz | 14:00 – 22:00
• Saturday, May 4, 2024 – Lendplatz Süd | 14:00 – 22:00

Thematic Project Zones

Furthermore, for the first time, we have divided various projects into four thematic areas to provide better orientation for both visitors and project creators. Our thematic areas for this year are Discourse & Social, Art, Workshops, and Music.
