I had the chance to attend the opening of a new Brazilian café in Graz, just a short walk from Augarten, and wow, it truly stole my heart. The Graviola Café is more than a place to grab coffee. It’s a soulful space, filled with warmth, creativity, and memories of Brazil.

From the moment you walk in, you feel transported. The decoration is thoughtful and rich with meaning, artistic pieces, vintage touches, and a cozy, poetic atmosphere that reminded me of cafés inside Brazilian bookstores. It’s like stepping into a little corner of Brazil, right here in Graz.

Warm People, Live Music, and Brazilian Soul

The team behind Graviola is incredibly kind and welcoming. They’re not just café owners, they’re also musicians. The space even features a small stage where, during the opening, a Brazilian singer played live acoustic music that filled the room with joy.

It felt more like visiting a friend’s home than going out for coffee.

What to Try at Graviola Café in Graz

If you’re curious about Brazilian breakfast snacks, Graviola is the place to start. I tried the classic pão de queijo, a warm and chewy cheese bread, served in both its original version and a delicious stuffed one, with melted cheese and goiabada (a sweet guava paste popular in Brazil). Absolute perfection.

I also ordered a Pistachio Latte, refreshing and smooth, followed by my new favorite drink for Summer in Graz: Iced Mate with lime.

Mate tea has been part of my life in so many ways. As a gaúcha, born in the south of Brazil, I grew up with chimarrão, the green and hot version served in a wooden cup. Later in São Paulo, I discovered the toasted mate tea. But the iced version with lime? I first had it on the beaches of Rio, and to this day, it remains one of the most refreshing drinks I’ve ever had.

At Graviola, it tasted sophisticated and light. I had it sweetened and still, without sparkling water, just how I like it.

The café also offers a full menu of hot and cold drinks, and I can’t wait to try more next time.

More Than Coffee: A Space for Culture in Graz

What really makes Graviola stand out is its vision. Beyond the amazing drinks and cozy setting, the team is planning to host live music, literary gatherings, poetry nights, and more.
