One year ago, Mahler’s Café – Casa da Vovó opened its doors with a simple but heartfelt mission: to make people feel at home.
Today, the café celebrates its first anniversary, and in just twelve months it has become much more than a place to enjoy Brazilian coffee and homemade food. It has become a meeting point where memories, culture, music, and hospitality come together.
A Café Born from Family Memories

Behind Mahler’s Café is founder Juselia Mahler, whose inspiration came from her mother, Oma Jurema.
A cook for more than 40 years, Jurema filled her home with love, generosity, and comforting meals. According to Juselia, no one ever left her mother’s house hungry, and almost everyone went home carrying something delicious.
Those childhood memories eventually became the foundation of Mahler’s Café.
Rather than opening just another business, Juselia wanted to create a place with soul. A space where people could experience the warmth of a Brazilian home, not only through traditional recipes but also through the way every guest is welcomed.
That’s exactly how we felt when we first visited Mahler’s Café a year ago.
We were welcomed with genuine kindness, warm conversations, delicious food, and plenty of laughter. It’s the kind of place where you arrive for a coffee and end up staying much longer than planned.
Over the past year, we’ve returned many times, and some dishes have become absolute favorites. If it’s your first visit, we highly recommend trying the Feijoada, Brazil’s most iconic comfort food, along with the Pastéis and Coxinhas, two of the country’s most beloved savory snacks. They’re the kind of food that instantly makes you understand why Brazilians are so passionate about gathering around the table.
Bringing a Piece of Brazil to Graz

Stepping into Mahler’s Café feels different.
From the carefully chosen décor to the relaxed atmosphere, the café blends Brazilian hospitality with Graz’s local charm. The menu features specialty Brazilian coffee, homemade cakes, traditional snacks, breakfast, brunch, and comforting dishes that have quickly become favorites among locals and expats alike.
But what truly sets the café apart is the feeling it creates.
As Juselia beautifully describes it, Brazilian culture is present not only in the food but also in the atmosphere, the energy, and the genuine care shown to every customer.
For her, Mahler’s Café offers much more than traditional dishes. It offers comfort, identity, connection, and a place where people can simply feel welcome.
Celebrate the First Anniversary on July 4
To celebrate this special milestone, Mahler’s Café is inviting everyone to a festive anniversary party on Friday, July 4.
The evening will feature live samba, a DJ, delicious Brazilian food, refreshing drinks, and the joyful atmosphere that has made the café so beloved over the past year.
Whether you’ve been visiting since the beginning or you’ve been looking for the perfect excuse to discover this hidden gem in Graz, this celebration promises to be a wonderful introduction to Brazilian culture.
More Than a Café
During its first year, Mahler’s Café has become much more than a restaurant.
It has grown into a cultural meeting place where music, literature, art, and community naturally come together. Live performances, poetry evenings, reading groups, and cultural events are all part of Juselia’s vision of creating a space where people connect beyond the table.
For many Brazilians living in Austria, it offers a comforting taste of home.
For Austrians and international visitors, it offers an authentic introduction to Brazilian hospitality and culture through food, conversation, and shared experiences.
